Kegel’s, the most well-known pelvic floor exercises, are not necessarily for everyone. If the cause behind your discomfort is hypertonicity (tight muscles), Kegels may be causing more harm than good. This is why it is important to see a properly trained pelvic floor physiotherapist to determine the cause of your discomfort.
Core Stabilization
If the cause behind your discomfort is hypotonicity, specific core exercises will be given to you in addition with the Kegels in order to strengthen the pelvic floor. The physiotherapist will first start by teaching you how to properly tighten the core muscles on the floor, while maintaining a neutral spine.Standing exercises will be given slowly, in order to make sure your core stays tight through your daily functional movement. This in turn will help decrease any pain you may be experiencing.
